Roy A. Buckingham was a day duck while attending A&M and lived in the College View Apartments. Roy was the president of Iota Lambda Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi in 1959. He and his wife have been married 51 years have three grown children, Lynn, John, Ray and 6 grandchildren. He retired from the US Naval Air Reserve in 1976 after serving 21 years. He retired from Indiana State University in 1998 as Professor Emeritus of Aerospace Technology. Carlos A. Garcia lived in Bryan while attending school.  He is married and has three children from a previous marriage. He retired from the Venezuelan oil industry PDVSA in 1992 after 41 years. Res La Arbelasta 43A, 2nd AVE, Sta. Eduvigis, Caracas, Venezuela 1091.

 

Laney M. McMath was a member of B-FA. He retired from the Army in 1989 and took a DoD teaching position overseas as two of his and wife Melinda’s three daughters and their families were stationed in Europe. They recently returned to the states and now reside at 12343 Cascade Hills, San Antonio, TX 78253.

 

Milton E. Powell was not a member of the Corps at A&M. Says he is still retired. PO Box 94638, Lubbock, TX 79493.

 

Steve Reid was in the Maroon Band. He coached for thirty years, mostly in high schools around the Ft Worth area, Masonic Home, Aledo, Jacksboro, Burleson and Weatherford.  Coach at TCU and the University of Texas at Arlington. Says he had a hard time being on the opposing sideline when TCU played A&M at Kyle Field. He has three children, two Aggies and one a Horn Frog. Retired from coaching in 1987 and has devoted his time to ranching and real estate. Recently he learned to fly a helicopter and is looking forward to flying to A&M functions.

 

Don R. Rummel was a member of A-AAA. He and wife Ada have 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters and two grandsons. Don retired from the Texas Agriculture Experiment Station in 2000 as Professor Emeritus in cotton research.  He would like to hear from squat-low Charles, Phil Richmond, and Poor devil Crews, Grady Barr, Gary Hipps, Bob Wilson and other members of A-AAA. 2901 20th St., Lubbock, TX 79410.

 

Dr. Tom Sawyer was a member of B-AAA until he entered Veterinary School. He and wife Carol live in Houston where he still practices at the Tom Sawyer Animal Clinic. 5347 Fayette St., Houston, TX 77056.

 

Billy D. Sevier was a member of B-Armor his first two years and then lived in Dorm 2 (jocks), Law and Puryear halls. He and wife Maxine have been married for 40 years and have two sons, Marcus ’94 and Brett ’96.  Between them they have 5 grandchildren. Edward A. Wueste was a member of A-TC. He is a widower of 2 years and has 2 sons and 4 grandchildren. Ed had two careers at the federal and state levels as an engineer. He is presently working part time for an engineering firm and participates in several mission trips per year. November 2007

 

Thomas C. Billingslea was a member of “B” Field Arty his fish year and then lived in Legget hall, Walton hall and Dorm 16 until graduation. Tom and his wife Mae celebrated their 27th anniversary this year and Tom has two sons by previous marriages. Tom says he has really enjoyed searching for “lost” classmates and was able establish contact with two this past summer and will continue to look. Gary Norris Herrington played baseball for the Aggies, was a member of “A” Athletics and lived in Hart Hall. He reports that Brandt, Ryan and Anna Beth are doing fine. He retired from GCCISD. 13206 Windy Oaks Dr., Baytown, TX 77520.

 

Gerald E. Ryan was a member of PHI KAPPA PHI and lived off campus. He was the VP of the Marketing Society and received the Faculty Achievement Award. His senior year he received a scholarship from the Houston Sales Executive Club.  He is single and has 4 daughters and 6 grandchildren. Robert E. “Smitty” Schmid was a member of Squadron 13 and worked in the athletic training room while at A&M.  He and his wife Barbara have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Smitty retired a LTC from the USAF in 1981 and then retired from Blue Bell Creameries after 26 years this past summer. His son Chris ’94 reports that Smitty served as branch manager in Humble for the past 18 years and is better known as the “Ice Cream Man” to family and friends.  His grandchildren are all upset that he will not have an endless supply of Blue Bell at his house (“eat all you want and sell he rest”).  Smitty and Barbara have a house in College Station at 311 Suffolk Ave and they say stop by if in town for football. 1203 Chestnut Ridge Road, Kingwood, TX 77339.

 

Clem Sherek was the CO of “A” Engineers is retired and raising goats, dogs, horses and one cat. 5001 Malaga Lane, McAllen, TX 78504.

 

Johnny “JT” Watts was a member of Alpha Zeta, and the Sr. Meats Judging Team. He and second wife Anne have 11 children and 25 grandchildren. JT is still teaching special Ed for the Snake River School district and was named teacher of the year last year. His favorite hobbies include long distance roller blading, bike riding (rode from Utah to Grand Island Nebraska on his bike this past summer) and collecting golf balls though he does‘t play golf. 989 West 50 North, Blackfoot, Idaho 83221.

 

James “Manroy” Wolpman lettered in track his fish year and was a member of Squadrons’ 21 and 24.  He and Gracie have been married for 50 years and have 3 married daughters and 6 grandchildren. Manroy retired from his insurance agency but is keeping his real estate office open, Dewitt Properties, 437 West Main. Says he occasionally sees Bob Carey, Ervan Zouzalik, and James Freytag. Robert A. “Bob” Collins was a member of the Maroon Band. Bob and his late wife, (deceased 1999), have two children and two grandchildren. Bob retired from Bank of America after 30 years and enjoys his family and plays golf three or four times a week. John A. Greaner Jr. lived in Dorm 10 his fish year and retired in 2001 as president and CEO of Hydro Machinery Inc.  They manufacture various types of pumps. John graduated from U of H in 1967 with a BS in Physics. He and wife Eva have been married 47 years. 105 Timberside Dr., Conroe, TX 77304.

 

Loyd Neal was a member of C-Inf. After serving eight years as mayor of Corpus Christi (1997-2005) Loyd was elected Nueces County Judge and took office in January 2007. Loyd is the first Republican County Judge in 143 years. He and wife, Thetis Ann, have a son Loyd Neal III, ’84 and a daughter, Ann Eddy ’86. 5202 St Andrew, Corpus Christi, TX 78413.

 

David B Smith, one of our lost ‘59ers until recently located by his fish old lady John Windham. David was in C-FA, a DS and a member of the RV. He was with the federal government for over thirty years and worked in Washington, Colorado and Idaho. He is now retired in Oregon. 3168 19th Avenue SE, Albany, Oregon  97322.

 

John Dennis Warren was a member of A Engineers, ASCE, and SAME. Has 2 sons and 2 daughters. The two sons and one daughter live in Ohio and the other daughter lives in

In Georgetown, TX. John worked 37 years for Goodyear Tire, mostly International.  25 years in South America and 12 years in SE Asia.  Attended Muster in Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand and Brazil. Retired to the home place in Evant where he runs 50 cows and 2 bulls on his 750 Acres. Says he sees Dale Lovelace and Wesley Heald every year @ HS reunions. Thomas C. Billingslea lived in Walton hall and was a member of AIEE and IRE. Prior to retiring in 2005 Tom worked as an electrical engineer 23 years for the Lone Star Steel Company in Lone Star, one year as a senior electric group designer for Lockwood-Greene Engineers in Dallas and 8 years as senior electrical plant engineer for Hercules Aerospace Division in McGregor. Donald L. Bullock lived in veterans housing in College View. He retired from the Gardner Denner Company after 35 years in their sales division as their General Sales Manager, He and wife Shirley have two daughters and two grandsons. 4923 Barclay, Tyler, TX 75703.

 

Fred L. Cole Jr. was a member of D & B FA. He and wife Martha have 4 girls and 4 grandchildren. Fred started his own business after graduation which evolved into a point of sale & automated time system business. He sold that business after 46 years and is now evolved in expanding a real estate business and teaching a class on the stock market. Jerome J Klement was a nonreg while at A&M, He and wife Carole of 43 years have 4 children, 3 of whom are Aggies, and 12 grandchildren. Jerry retired from USDA, FmHA in 1994 after 37 years. George Stephens was a member of Squadron 9 but graduated as a member of A Quartermaster. He retired from the Army and then from law enforcement. He is currently a part time contract employee at Fort Lee, Virginia, teaching soldiers basic mathematics and English. He is also a part time employee of the Colonial Heights, VA police department, performing background investigations for prospective police officers. June 2006

 

Leonard C. Benedic was a Korean War vet that lived in College View while attending A&M. He retired from GE in 1995 and has 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He spends part of his time repairing “talking books” for the blind. 5716 Province Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45239.

 

Eugene A. “Genkie”Beyer was a member of the 1st Bn staff, 1st Regt his senior year. While in school he was a member of the fish drill team, Who’s Who club, PE club and the wrestling club, He is single, has two sons, Eugene A. Jr., ’85 and Christopher. He retired as a 06, Colonel from the US Army in 1981. In Jan of this year while on an outing to Tom Johnson’s ranch in Valentine  the Buttermilk Financial Group was formed consisting of  Inf. ‘59ers Len Layne, Ray Fields, Frank Holmes, Genkie, Jim Carberry and John Sackett. Jim and John were unable to attend the first seminar and their entry into the group will be delayed pending an ok vote from the charter members. Ben Thompson called the group and said that when Carl Norris got back in town they would get together for lunch. Gene says they are still waiting for the call. 1400 S. Donald L. Bullock is married to Shirley and they have two daughters and 2 grandsons. Don retired from Gardner-Denver Company after 35 years as general sales manager. Harry W. “Joe” Chandler Jr. was a member of the fish drill team, sophomore drill team and “C” troop Armor. He has a son and three daughters. Joe retired as a 06 Colonel from US Army Aviation and currently is the administrator for the Orlando Urology Associates and a Professor at Valencia College teaching real estate law & principals. Walter Morrison Clerihew (Dec’d). Walter’s widow says that Walt passed away last Oct due to prostate cancer resulting from contact with agent orange in Vietnam in 1965-66. Max T. Davis was widowed in Nov 2004 and has 3 children. He retired from OSF Healthcare Systems where he was a corporate officer in charge of the OSF Foundation. Marcel Friedland and wife Sandie are currently retired in Las Vegas after 37 years in the Washington DC area.  They have one daughter and three grandchildren. Marcel retired from the US Army. Thomas L. Johnson Sr. has been married to Kay for 45 years and they have Tom Jr, ’91 and daughter Karen ’87. Tom is the Executive V.P. of Associated General Contractors of Texas. William L. Perkins is currently single and has one daughter and one son and 5 grandchildren between them. Bill retired from Solar Turbines. Was a member of SQ 2 until his third year and a member of the fish drill team. Toby Mattox and wife Rachel of 39 years have one daughter and one son.  They have two grandchildren. Toby retired in Dec 05 from the Society for the Performing Arts in Houston after nearly 26 years. He is now severing on four local boards, is an Elder at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, acts in local theaters. Leonard Clark (Butch), was on the 4th Grp staff his senior year. He was also on the fish drill team and the Corps Color Guard. He and wife Katey have been married 44 years and have 4 daughters and 8 grandchildren. Robert “Bob“ Davila, SQ 13,retired from Exxon in 1996 and he and wife Bobbie live in San Diego. They have three sons and two grandchildren. 834 Beryl St., San Diego, CA 92109.

Henry E. Heatherly is semi-retired Professor Emeritus at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a member of the graduate faculty directing doctoral students. William E. (Buddy) Keeling was a member of A and B Ordnance while in school. He retired after 25 years with the Pershing Project, office of the U.S. Army Missile Command. He also spent 10 years with the Strategic Air Defense Command as an electronic engineer. Buddy reports his first wife passed away in 1993 and he remarried in ’94. Delma L. Osborne “D.L.” and wife Dorothy have a son and 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. DL is retired after being self-employed in the horse business. He was a breeder of foundation quarter horses specializing in cutting and cow horse bloodlines. Richard A. Smith, SQ 22, was a member of the swim team and aggie talent show. He and wife Norma have been married for 47 years and have 3 daughters and nine grandchildren. August 2005

 

Jim Ballow was a member of SQ13. He owned and operated a chain of 13 convenient stores and is now a retired rancher in central Texas. He and his wife have two children and five grandchildren, the oldest a sophomore at A&M. 990 CR 532, Evant, TX 76525.

 

Jay B. Bisbey started in AAA and wound up the Regt Cmdr his senior year. He and wife Joanne have been married 45 years and have two children and 4 grandchildren. Jay spend 20 years in US Army Aviation, retired and then spent 25 years in the Aerospace industry, retiring as a program manager for international business development. Currently, Jay spends his time working on his golf handicap and playing with his grandchildren. Roy Buckingham is a retired professor emeritus Aerospace Technology, Indiana State University where he spent 27 years. He is now teaching research & statistics and human factors in aviation at Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University. Donald Jon Soland, Armor unit and 1st Regt staff senior year. He and wife Helga of 44 years have 2 daughters. Retired from US Army in ’89 and then the defense industry in’98. William Leo Yates retired as associate professor, cooperative extension family life education specialist, New Mexico State U after 24 years cumulative USDA and military service. L. David Black a member of SQ 18, married Marilyn and they have two daughters, Katherine Joyce and Beth Black. They have three grandsons and a granddaughter. J. Ward Boyce, 2nd Gp Staff, married Mary in 1961 and they had two daughters, Beverly and Elizabeth. They have 4 grandchildren. Ward retired from the USAF in 1988 and from Exec. Dir. Ken Cox, 2nd Regimental Staff, yell leader, trainer on football team fish year. Married to Gayle for 37 yrs, have one daughter Shannon who has a daughter Emily and one son Bryan ’98. Bryan’s wife Mary Beth ’95. Ken is currently on Board of Directors of Former Yell Leaders Assoc and working as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley. Jack J. Estes was sec-treas of AIIE chap and served on Student Council. Retired from A.O. Smith Water Products as Exec VP. Charles W. Heald, AAA, married to Dorothy who retired from Texas Bank. They have two children, Debra Johnson ’84 and Darrell ’86 and four grandchildren. Wes retired as Exec Director of the Texas Dept. of Transportation on Sept 1, 2001 after 40 yrs of service and also retired as LTC from US Army Reserves. Carlos W. Hickman, A Engineers and Bn Staff, still married to Mary Frances. Have three married daughters. One is an Aggie and married an Aggie. The other two are married to Air Force fighter pilots. Jerry C. McDaniel, SQ 4 (2 yrs), married to Carla Jo (Bush), one daughter. Spent 3 years in the US Navy and then as a soil scientist with the Soil Conservation Service for 32 yrs. He is retired and lives at 1104 Smith Street, Bedford, VA 24523.

John Mays, A Armor, married to Marilyn since June 13, 1959. Two children, Gwen ’83 and Kyle ’85. They have 7 grandchildren. John retired as an airport manager in Apr ’02 and most of his time is spent with a few community volunteer projects and teaching grandkids to drive. He golfs and hunts with son and grandson in South TX. He and Marilyn have a couple of Fords, ’37 pickup and ’32 coupe that occupy a lot of their time. John had the thrill of teaching his son to fly and he later became a fighter pilot and flew F-16s in the Gulf War. He says he was able to get one hour in the F-16, lucky guy! They reside at P.O. Fred A. Palmer, DVM. Married to Vola and they have one son David ’92. Two grandchildren. Fred is retired and raises whitetail deer on his ranch. Robert T. Pfeuffer, Corps Staff, Chairman of SCONA IV, wife Jean, Sons: Mike ’86 married to Carlyn ’86; David ’87 married to Tammy ’87 and daughter Susan, Colorado State, #1 in her class! Bob is an attorney, mediator, arbitrator, senior district judge serving on special assignment, rancher, and RV park owner on the Guadalupe River in Comal county. Rudy Schubert, Aggie Band, Head Drum Major, married to Jennie for 43 yrs. Three daughters: Lisa McMillan ’84 and husband Scott ’85; Kim Phelps and husband Rodney; Mandy Scott ’87 and husband David ’88. They have a total of 6 grandchildren. Rudy says he is almost completely retired from his real estate business and he and Jennie are in their 13th year of traveling in their RV.

Carr B. J.L. Taylor- JL was a member of A composite and studied FA for bull text. He and wife Barbara live in Bryan TX and have two sons both Aggie graduates and 4 grandchildren. JL retired from FMC Corp in 2000 and currently consults for COHON to AGMI LLC. He is also the new product chaperone for cotton managers.

Del Deterling- For 36 years, his byline graced the pages of Progressive Farmer now he is retired. He has vowed to continue to write some articles and attend meetings for PF. At his retirement upper management said, “Del has won all sorts of awards and honors, but his greatest accomplishment was showing the staff the meaning of commitment and professionalism.”

Stanley B. Coughran- he and wife Nancy can be reached at PO Box 210, Pleasanton, TX 78064. Stanley was a member of C Field Artillery while in school. He does financial planning, sells mutual funds & life insurance. He also finds time to operate his own cattle ranch.

Carlos A. Garcia- worked 41 yrs for the Venezuelan oil industry. Retired as director of Corpoven S.A., one of the affiliate companies of PDVSA in August 1992. He and wife Grace reside in Caracas, Venezuela.

Raul Villaronga- Raul retired from the US Army as a Colonel in 1985. After serving one term as a Killeen City Council member, three terms as Mayor of Killeen and four years as Associate Municipal Judge in Killen he “retired” again, leaving only real estate dabbling as an occupation/hobby. The Villaronga’s have two grandson’s, one a marine and the other a junior at Westchester U in PA. Raul says come visit them in Killeen but call first as they have bought a motor home and will be on the road.

Joe Norman Mullen- Retired from Tenneco Oil Exploration and Production in 1986. He and Lilly were married March 21, 1953 and he wants to know if they have been married the longest period in our class. They have 2 sons and 1 daughter class of ’82. Carl F. Raba, Jr.- member of A Engineers and currently resides at 400 E Wildwood, San Antonio, TX 78212. Carl and Bunny have supported Texas A&M in a big way. Bunny passed away in July 2003. He is currently the chairman and CEO of Raba and Kistner Consultants, Inc.

Gary Hipps- Was a member of AAA and on the 2d Battalion Staff his senior year. He and wife Pat live at 3824 Spring Dr., Huntsville, TX 77340. Gary retired from the Army in 1986 after 26 yrs and went to work for the Prison System in Huntsville as the Facilities Maintenance Manager. He retired from the State in 2003 and enjoys hunting and fishing. He says his response when asked what he is doing is “nothing and I don’t start doing that until noon”. Gary Jr. ’83 recently returned from Bosnia after flying Apaches for a deployed Texas National Guard unit. Gary and Pat are looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

William L. Perkins- Was on the Fish Drill Team. After engineering jobs with several different companies he retired from Dresser Engineering. His work took him to a number of overseas locations over the years. He can be reached at 1389 Fairhaven Dr., Mansfield, TX 76063.

Len H. Layne-Served on the First Battalion staff his senior year and was a member of “A” Infantry. He and wife Dorothy have two sons Eric ’90 and Mike ’92. Len is in the real business and says that classmate Tom Johnson was appointed by President Bush to the National Parks Board and received an award last month from the National Transportation Board.

George Wendell Bryant- He and wife have been married 45 years and have two children and 4 grandchildren. He was a member of  “B” Engineers. He retired from faculty at Texas A&M Commerce in 1999 and Green Villa: a residential treatment center in 2003. They live at 2805 McCarley Dr., Commerce, TX 75428.

Kirby Cunningham-Served on the Corps Staff as the Inspector General and was a member of the Ross Volunteers for 2 years. He retired this year from the Ameritas/Acacia Companies as an investment advisor/financial planner. He lives at 166 Crockett Drive, Kerrville, TX 78028.

Charles H. Robison- was a member of the Ross Volunteers, Singing Cadets and the 2nd Wing Commander. He retired from the USAF as LTC and retired from Raytheon after his second career. He and wife Donal Ruth live at 1954 Berkshire Dr. Fullerton, CA 92833 and have two adult children.

James M. McPhail – A Co Transportation and then Walton Hall. Still goes hunting & fishing with JA (Mick) kromer ’59 who was his fish ole lady. Says Mick is retired from incinerator manufacturing business in Houston. James has been in the gasoline retail business with his father, McPhail Enterprises, in thirty locations at one time or another. Sold retail part of business after heart surgery. Still works for a Mobil Distributor. Received 30 yr pins from Gulf-Chevron, Humble-Exxon and Texaco because he was distributor for all. He and wife Joann celebrated their 41st anniversary June 2003. They have 3 daughters, 2 A&M graduates and one Stephan F. Austin graduate (art major not offered at A&M at the time). Carl F. Raba Jr. Served in Army Corps of Engineers before becoming chairman of Raba-Kistner Consultants Inc. where he has been chairman and CEO since 1980. He has been active in A&M organizations and other groups in the San Antonio area. The Dr. Carl and Bunny Jean Raba Elementary School in San Antonio’s Northside school district is named in honor of him and his late wife.

James L. Taylor (JL) member of A Comp while in school. He and wife Barbara have been married over 45 yrs and have 2 sons ’84 and 2 daughter-in-laws ’84 and 4 grandchildren. John D. Windham- member of A Comp after he and Barbara were married on campus in 1957.  They have 3 sons and 2 granddaughters. May 2001

On March 14, 2001 the Class of ‘59 “A” Field Artillery members met for lunch in New Braunfels, TX for their first reunion in 41 years. Attendees included Walter H. McGee of Houston, John Chamberlain, Ed Knueger, Dick Killian & Dick Noack of San Antonio, Larry L. Smith of Edinburgh, James O. Collins of Fredericksburg, Jack Harzke of Austin, Bert Ormsby of New Braunfels and Don Young of Waco. 10 of the original 24 freshman of “A” FA weren’t bad. Actually it was only nine. Don Young was in an automobile accident on the way from Waco to the meeting and didn’t make it. The good news is he was not injured and the bad news is we didn’t get to see him. The first get together of “A” Battery was instigated and planned by John Chamberlain and will certainly lead to more frequent get together as indicated by the attendees. As is usual with a gathering of Aggies, all had a good time. Lots of reminiscing and updating each other on the last forty years. It was great and we recommend it to you all. Perry Pierce and wife Shirley are retired at 13559 FM 622, Victoria, TX 77905. Perry was in SQ 23 and was originally from Winters, TX. He retired from Tidehaven ISD as Asst. Supt after 36 yrs in Public Education. Says he is traveling and doing some fishing.

Lucian “Val” Polk  and wife Sharon live at 2209 St. Andrews Road, Jeffersonville, and Ten 47130-6765. He came out of retirement to be the local census office manager for 18 counties for census 2000. He owned a business in Louisville for a number of years after retirement from the US Army in 1979. Got tired of playing golf almost daily for two years before taking on census 2000 for a year. Says he is going to enjoy returning to golf. He and Sharon have 3 sons and a daughter who have blessed them with 6 granddaughters and a new grandson.

Al Yantis  and wife Shirley live at 234 Walnut Lon. He was a member of SQ 17 and retired from the USAF as a LTC and now owns AYSKYS, a document management & imaging company. He stays active in the community; Optimist club, Gingerbread House Board, Cancer Research Board, Optimist Leukemia Foundation, Secretary of the local Retired Officer Assn, and Air Force Assn (VP)

James W. Best  was in Ord and on the staff his senior year. He retired Colonel and currently lives in Alexandria, VA. After retiring from the Army he worked for several firms preparing proposals in response to Government requests primarily dealing with base operations and DOE sites. He is retired and working on his golf game, which he says, needs a lot of work. Jim is widowed and has a daughter living in MI who has two children and son living in SD who has a daughter.

Charlie A. “Buddy” Bollfrass  and wife Susan live at 17802 Forest Park Lane, Spring, and TX 77379-8729. He closed a consulting engineering company in 1995 and is currently a team leader/development engineer/ocean drilling program located at TAMU research Park, in college station. He lectures in Mech Engr Dept/machine design course 445/6. Mostly consults in litigation or strategic planning for the oil patch. He married 4 children to go along with 2 of his own (2 at TAMU/2 Aggie exes.

Robert “Bob” Flournoy and wife Patricia live at 1609 E. Georgia Av, Ruston, LA 71270. Bob was in E Inf civilian as a senior. He is an Environmental Consultant, expert witness for 28 yrs. In 1998 became owner of self-storage units in Ruston. Received his MS and PHD from A&M and did post-doctoral work at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He became a Diplomat of American Board of Forensic Examiners. They have six children, 5 boys and 1 girl Heather, Heather graduated from A&M in ‘96.

Don Branum  and wife Darlene live at 1505 Pineridge, Longview, TX 75604. Don was in “A” Signal and is currently the Senior VP and cofounder of Vertex Communications, Corp. Says he doesn’t intend to retire anytime soon. He and Darlene have 5 children; Brad ‘87, Andrew ‘02,Grant ‘03, Susan is a student at TCU and Devon recently graduated from ACC. Says he plays lots of golf.

J. Earl (Lefty) Beckman  and wife Jeanne are enjoying the retirement life at 6009 Augusta Circle, College Station, TX 77845.Earl, Lefty as he was known then, was Commander of the 4th Bn (pre Vets, “A” athletics and “B” athletics). After 21 years with Union Carbide, enjoying jobs from plant engineer to business management, Earl finished his career as President and CEO of LeTourneau. They make steel; build very large mining equipment and offshore drilling rigs. Earl enjoys playing golf with his friends at Pebble Creek CC and doing some consulting work. Jeanne remains very active in volunteer work as well as being a speaker and speaker trainer for Stonecroft Ministries. They have 3 daughters; Sheryl (Aggie) lives in NYC (Price Waterhouse); Michelle (mother of the 3 grandchildren) lives in Albuquerque; Laura works as an attorney for the City of Houston.

Bob Blackstone and wife Wanda live at 413 Saddleback, Fairview, TX 75069. Bob was in A Athletics for three years and on Earl Beckman’s 4th Bn staff as a senior. He went on active duty with Ord the day after graduation in 1960. Received his parachutist badge at Fort Benning then worked for Ma Bell in Dallas. Other jobs included 12 years at Southwest Research, 4 with Brown & Root and 4 years as a lecturer in ME at Texas Tech. In June 2001 he retired after 10 years at ABS to his current home on the 17th fairway at the Heritage Ranch course. He and Wanda have two sons. Bill, and Tim ’96. Ray L. Burns and wife Marsha of 46 yrs live at 4603 Oakmont Circle, College Station, TX 77845. Ray was in “C” AAA and on Battalion Staff his senior year. Served 30 yrs in Army Aviation and retired as COL in ‘89. Relocated to CS in ‘94. Owner of small manufacturing company (www.ballgage.com) and stays busy playing golf, class agent, American Legion, Quiet Birdmen, 12th Man Foundation, Board of Aggie Quarterback Club and president of the Men’s Golf Association. Jerrell N. Henson spent 21 yrs as a Navy aviator and then transitioned to a senior civilian billet managing the Navy Reconnaissance Center in the Pentagon. He has been with them over 23 yrs and had just moved into new billets in the Pentagon when it was hit by the terrorist. His section lost 23 people but Jerry was pulled to safety from the burning rubble. He spent some time in the hospital recovery but is now back at work. He and his wife Kathy have been married 39 years and have a son Neal, and daughter Kelly. 8/13/02

Dr. Jay Roland wife Bettye reside at 21950 North 97th Street, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255-4418. Jay is mostly retired but still doing some international power plant development from his arm chair. Trying not to return to Pakisstan, China or Brazil. They have a granddaughter, Dylan E. Mcleod who is in the Honors Program at A&M studying Political Science and Economics. Jay says “ya’ll come”, would love to have calls and visits.

George W. Stephens retired from his second career on June 30, 2000 as Asst. Chief of Police, Capitol Police, Richmond, Virginia after serving more than 20 years in law enforcement. George entered police work in 1980 after 20 years of service with the US Army. Before serving with the Capitol Police, George was a patrol officer, communications coordinator and internal affairs supervisor. George continues to reside in Petersburg, VA with his wife, Beverly. George and Beverly celebrated 43 years of marriage in Aug 2003.

James R. (Bulb) Taylor  was a member of C FA and it’s commander his senior year. He retired from the US Army in ‘92 as Major General. He went to work for a consulting firm the following year but retired again in 2001 and now plays golf, travels and plays with their grandkids. They live in New Braunfels.

James E. (Ed) Ayers  was a member of C Inf and it’s commander his senior year. Ed retired from SW Bell in ‘92 and he and wife Shirley reside in Horseshoe Bay. They both play golf 2-3 times per week and love to travel. They have six grandsons and all will hopefully be students at A&M in the not too distant future. Both of their sons are Aggies and married Aggies. Ed and Shirley are active in the Church of Horseshoe Bay. Ed is President of the Lake LBJ Municipal Utility district. In addition to the water/sewer service responsibilities, this district is unique in that it also provides all emergency services to the Horseshoe Bay community. Shirley organized the first Bunko group in Horseshoe Bay a couple of years ago. They had a great time at Notre Dame except for the final score. They plan on a tour in Italy in March and Ed is part of a father/son golf group going to Scotland in August of 2001. Other Aggies and sons in that group are Dick Noack ‘59 and Charlie Thornton ‘60.

Charles F. Robertson ’59

John Brewster Smith ‘59

 

Retired on December 31, 1999 as Chief Librarian and Professor as Bronx Community College of the City University of New York, a post he held since 1997. Dr. Smith began his career as a professional librarian in 1963 at Columbia University where he served as Assistant law Librarian. He later served 8 years as Assistant Director and Director of libraries at Texas A&M and 22 years as Dean of Libraries at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Smith also taught library science as an adjunct professor at Queens College, City University of New York and at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Smith and his wife Ida will reside at 108 Inverness Drive, April Sound, and Montgomery, Texas 77356. They have two daughters, Susan (Smith) Toth ‘86 of Wilmington, North Carolina and Rona (Smith) Wendt of Austin.

James and his wife of 45 years Gracie reside at 417 N. Church St, Yorktown, TX  78164-5226. They have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren. James has operated the Wolpman Insurance and Real Estate Agency since 1969.

 

Ervan E. Zouzalik ‘59

 

Ervan and wife Jeanette can be reached at PO Box 328, Flatonia, TX 78941.They have 5 children and 13 grandchildren and celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in 2002. Ervan was elected to lead the Independent Bankers Association of Texas for 2002-2003. He is the Chairman of the Board of Texas United Bancshares and State Bank, La Grange. Prior to the merger with State Bank, he was President/CEO of Central Texas Bank. He is past President of the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce and Flatonia Rotary Club. He is a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of Sacred Heart Church and the American Legion.
